Do you dread Monday morning?
Anxiety, sadness, overwhelm, stress, tiredness or even depression? It’s so widespread, people think it’s unavoidable. Is it possible to overcome the pain, sorrow and evil – and even have a magnificent Monday?Sure, I’ll admit, this is a work in progress for me. But along the way, I’ve discovered some amazing things that help.
ASK YOURSELF WHAT’S WRONG
Write your thoughts down.Especially when you go to bed or wake up.Write down whatever is on your mind. Yes, write it. Don’t type it out.Keep a paper journal by your bed.Scientists say your mind is wired so that the act of writing makes it far easier for your brain to cross items off your Worry List.Ask yourself: What’s wrong with my work? (Or whatever else makes Mondays hard.)Even if it seems there’s nothing you can do about it…writing it down is the first step toward a solution.Write down happy things too.Try to write down at least 3 things you’re happy about or looking forward to for the week.If you can’t think of 3 things, then create some rewards you look forward to.
LEARN TO UNPLUG ON THE WEEKEND
It may be hard to keep from peeking at your work emails ahead of time. But don’t.Especially if you’re not required to respond until Monday.Keep as firm a boundary between home and work as possible.
ATTACK THE DAY EARLY
First of all, the weekend is a far better time to attack the Monday Blues – than on Monday morning.Ryan Kahn, a career coach, author and founder of The Hired Group and star of MTV ‘s Hired, says Friday is even better.“Mondays can be extra stressful from work that has potentially piled up from the previous week and, for many, can be challenging to jump right back in,” Kahn explains.Leave yourself as few dreadful tasks as possible for the new work week.Make that uncomfortable phone call, resolve that outstanding issue, or clean up that mess that’s waiting for you. Many will clean their apartment, do their dishes and stock their refrigerator. But if Monday rolls around and unpleasant tasks still await you…get them done as early as possible. It’s too easy to spend the rest of the day procrastinating. Feeling like there’s a black cloud over your head. The start of your day has such a powerful impact on the rest of your day.One happy thing early in the day can give you momentum for the rest of the day.
The very best way to start each day is with exercise.Sure, we can’t all be at the gym at 5 every morning. But even 10 or 15 minutes of moving can do wonders for you.If you start your day with a brief walk, then at least one thing has already gone right with your day.
KEEP YOUR HOME A POSITIVE PLACE
Or at least one room.A tidy room can be like a friend who squeezes your arm and let’s you know how special you are.
TALK WITH A TRUSTED FRIEND
It can take a huge load off your shoulders. No (or few) friends? Furry pets are great therapy too.
KEEP A POSITIVITY FILE
Cards, pictures, music too.Choose things that pump you up and make you feel alive again. Then keep them where you can get a quick fix.
SLEEP IS (ALMOST) EVERYTHING
So many experts say… sleep is the number one predictor of success.Even if they’re wrong, it sure feels good! You need to be in REM state (deep sleep) from 11PM to 1AM.Doctors say almost everyone’s body clock is set this way.
Why can essential oils have such a powerful effect on your thinking?First of all, they’re concentrated. For some oils, it takes more than a hundred pounds of flowers to make a drop of oil.Oils such as Abundance (a blend orange, ginger and other essences) are often used to magnify happy or peaceful thoughts.Joy is another blend that includes bergamot and ylang ylang. What’s it like? People often say the aroma invites a sense of romance, warmth, bliss and togetherness.Regardless of how you’d describe it – why not try essential oils to lift your mood?
REMEMBER, IT’S ALL YOU
Every day, we all have a choice. Whether to feel good or bad.Once I realized that, a whole lot changed for me.A whole lot can change for you too.Life takes it out of you. We would love to help you put it back in.
